I absolutely loved my day as Emily + Tayler’s Colorado Springs Engagement photographer, capturing whimsical and adventurous Engagement photography in the Garden of the Gods.

We were on a Zoom call one night discussing Emily and Tayler’s vision for their engagement session when they told me they wanted their photographs to display their intimacy and whimsical personalities, while also capturing their adventurous natures. Jokingly, I mentioned, “well, you wanna get married in the mountains, why not have your engagement in the mountains as well!” I quickly found out that Emily and Tayler were both thrill-seekers and travelers like myself and they LOVED the idea!

Two weeks later, we found ourselves at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs! 

Our adventure started sipping specialty coffee together at Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters in Denver and exploring the city a bit! Once time came, we hopped into our rental car and took off for Colorado Springs. 

After an hour and a half of stunning mountain views, we finally arrived in the Garden of the Gods. First, we started taking photos in a field at the foothills of the mountains. As we started, the heavens opened up and powerful sun rays broke through the clouds, pouring beautiful, golden light onto the red rocks.

After starting in at the foothills of the red rocks, trekked higher up the mountain side and found ourselves looking out over the mountains with a breathtaking view of the Garden of the Gods. I slowed down the pace of the session a little bit by changing the playlist to some of my slower songs, while Emily and Tayler cuddled into one other letting us create some more intimate moments. 

One of my favorite prompts to use to help slow down the mood and refocus the couple on one another is having them cuddle close (it worked out that it was forty degrees) and look into another’s eyes, naming all the colors they see in their irises.

To warm back up, we went out onto the road (doing our best to avoid oncoming traffic!) and in true adventure-mode, Emily and Taylor competed against each other in a hilarious game of Gladiator (no one was hurt in the process of this!).

The whole trip was full of fun, laughter and great memories. A massive thank you to Emily and Taylor for choosing me as their Colorado Springs Engagement photographer and trusting me with my mad-cap plan of shooting their adventure Engagement in the Garden of the Gods!
