I had the awesome opportunity to get to know these two and their infectious love for one another over the last year and half and to become their friend and connect with them over our shared love for Lord of the Rings. After our planning appointments over Zoom and talking about their goals and vision for their big day, I was so excited to see how all the amazing and authentic ways these two wanted to incorporate their personalities, interests, hobbies, and everything that defined and made them who they are into all the aspects of their wedding.
The two both shared a big love for anything Disney and Lord of the Rings and did not shy away from the idea of weaving in their passions for interests into the big day. When we first talked about them weaving in Lord of the Rings into their day, I’ll be honest, the inner geek in me came out!
The day started where I met up with the groomsmen at Forrest’s parents’ beautiful home out in Floyds Knobs across the river near The Refinery in Jeffersonville, Indiana for their prep images.
Forrest had custom ordered a real sword that took after Aragon’s sword, “Andúril”, for his best man, Derek, with his name engraved into the steel. Derek also custom ordered a sword that took after “Sting”, the sword Frodo wielded all throughout the LOTR series.
After the sword exchange, capturing some moments of Becca’s dad, Rusty, helping Forrest get ready and some gangster groomsmen party images with each of them wielding a dagger with their names engraved on it, our adventure took us to The Refinery where the bridal party was preparing for the day.
As token of her love and appreciation to each of the women who were there to support her that day, Becca gifted each of her bridesmaids with a backpack that was themed after their favorite Disney movie/show. Each bag was personalized and stuffed full of various different gifts that each meant something significant to that friend. It was so touching to watch and capture the reactions of the bridesmaids and they unpacked their thoughtful gifts.
After soaking up the emotions, Becca then put on her stunning dress from Brides by Young, a specialty, size-inclusive boutique in Indianapolis, Indiana, for some portraits with mom and her sister. We then slipped outside into The Refinery’s beautiful stone courtyard for some portraits to show off how radiant Becca was in her gown.
Before we knew it, the ceremony was upon us and it left me all in my feels. From Forrest losing it (and I don’t blame em) when he saw his beautiful bride walking down the aisle to him, the readings of their favorite excerpts from Winnie the Pooh and Lord of the Rings, the best man controlling a remote Chopper droid replica down the aisle holding the rings to them as they said I do, to their couples portraits, their love was on display for the entire world to see it.
The opening chapter in their grand adventure came to a close as they partied the night away with their friends and families on the dance floor inside The Refinery’s North Wing.
From witnessing Forrest bestowing his close friends Lord of the Rings inspired swords, Becca gifting her bridesmaids with Disney themed backpacks, to meaningful, powerful quotes and readings from their favorite sagas during their ceremony, the day screamed Becca and Forrest and their love and story shone so brightly.
My heart is so full from being able to serve and document such an incredible moment for these two. I don’t think their intimate wedding at The Refinery it could’ve been anymore perfect, and I am so happy they chose to have me as their Kentucky wedding photographer!
I capture the memories and dreams of adventurous couples across the US and beyond. Adventure elopements, destination weddings, micro-soirees - if you have a story you want to share with the world, I’d be honored to tell it.
