Connecting with Paige and Chase and capturing their adventurous winter engagement in the Red River Gorge has become a highlight of this season!
Exploring amazing places and connecting with couples on a much deeper and personal level is one of the highlights of my business. Becoming friends with amazing people who I resonate with and love the same things I do (dogs, coffee, good food, hiking, and of course photography 😉 ) fills my heart with so much joy! Capturing Paige and Chase’s Red River Gorge engagement photography after a snowstorm was nothing short of this.
After our initial phone call together, I think it’s safe to say that we were all so excited for what our time together would bring and the vision we had for their engagement!
When a couple and I explore the Red River Gorge for their session, it has become a tradition to always grab lunch and coffee from the Daniel Boone Coffee Shop in Slade, Kentucky just outside the Gorge. Their coffee never misses and I always love to stock up on a few new stickers from the gift shop to stick all over my water bottle and laptop. After about an hour of lunch, sippin on some coffee, and casual conversation (which is always my favorite) we skipped back on over to the airbnb they rented out, The Homespun Hideaway, to start with some indoor, cozy couples images.
After rolling around the bed, smacking each other with pillows, playing airplane, and cozying up to each other, Paige and Chase laced up their Merrell hiking boots and hopped in the Kia to head out for a hike to the top of Chimney Rock.
Unfortunately due to the winter weather that passed through The Red River Gorge the night before, the trail was closed off so we made our way to another beautiful spot I know of well called The Natural Bridge.
One of my favorite things to do as we hit the trails together is to capture some candids of the couples making their way along the trail. We made a couple of stops along the way near what we joked to look like a little cave where a bear was just waiting to photobomb our photos and then under a little canopy off to the side of the main trail.
After a slick hike and sucking in to squeeze through a small gap in the rocks, we finally made it to the top of Natural Bridge. Though I have made the hike to the top many times before, I don’t think I could ever grow bored of the breathtaking view that always awaits any adventurer that makes it to the top.
At this point the sun was starting to set and the temperature was noticeably starting to drop, so we ended their session with lots of movement, competitions and laughter to warm both our bodies and our souls. Once the temperature hit 15 degrees Fahrenheit and the cold became a little too much, we made our way down the bridge and ended Paige and Chase’s adventurous Red River Gorge engagement session stuffing our faces with burritos and quesadillas at La Cabaña’s Mexican Restaurant!
I capture the memories and dreams of adventurous couples across the US and beyond. Adventure elopements, destination weddings, micro-soirees - if you have a story you want to share with the world, I’d be honored to tell it.
