Epic Scenery:
Telluride is known for its stunning mountain views and breathtaking landscapes, making it the perfect location for adventurous couples who want to exchange their vows in an epic setting. With towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and alpine lakes, Telluride elopements offer endless possibilities for an unforgettable experience!
An Intimate Atmosphere:
Telluride is a small town that is secluded high up in the mountains and is a 6.5-hour drive from Denver. Because of this, Telluride doesn’t attract nearly as many tourists and visitors like many of the other towns in the state! Eloping in Telluride allows couples to create an intimate atmosphere and share a truly special moment together.
With fewer distractions and a more personal setting, couples can focus on what truly matters: their love for one another and the incredible adventure that lies ahead of them!
Endless Opportunities for Adventure:
Telluride is an adventurer’s paradise, with countless outdoor activities available year-round. From hiking and skiing to mountain biking and rafting, couples can incorporate their favorite activities into their elopement and make it an unforgettable adventure.
Telluride is also well known for its off-roading trails! Want to get as far away from people as possible and reach some of the most epic views? Get in your 4×4 and let’s hit the backcountry!
It’s A Romantic Town:
The town of Telluride is full of charm and romance, making it an ideal location for couples who want to enjoy a romantic getaway while also tying the knot. With its historic architecture, charming restaurants, and cozy cabins and Airbnbs, Telluride offers the perfect setting for a romantic getaway!
Best Places to Elope in Telluride:
This is a classic Telluride spot that never disappoints! With a 365-foot waterfall as your backdrop, you’ll feel like you’re in a fairytale. The hike up to the falls is moderate and takes about 1-2 hours round trip, but it’s worth it for the views!
For those looking for a secluded location with stunning views, Hope Lake is a must-see alpine lake high up in the mountains surrounding Telluride! The lake sits at the base of a towering peak and is surrounded by wildflowers in the summer. You can hike the trail leading up to the lake, or continue past the trailhead and take the 4×4 road that’ll take you right up to the lake!
If you’re feeling adventurous and up for a challenge, Handies Peak is a 14er that offers unbeatable views, and an incredibly intimate and private setting for your elopement! The hike is more strenuous and takes about 4.5 hours round trip to complete, but an emerald blue alpine lake waits for you at the end of the trail, and the summit will give you some of the best panoramic view of the area!
Telluride’s Many 4×4 Off-Roading Trails:
For couples who value privacy and want a generous helping of adventure in their elopement, Telluride’s 4×4 off-roading trails offer a variety of options. From Imogene Pass to Black Bear Pass, there are trails for every skill level – so if you’ve never off-roaded before, no worries! There are many trails and places you can pull off that offer a more private location for your ceremony with stunning views.
If wildflowers are your thing, American Basin is a must-see! The basin is an easy 2-mile hike that takes about 2 hours round trip and is known for its vibrant wildflowers in the summer. With a stunning mountain backdrop, it’s a picturesque location for your Telluride elopement!

Wedding Permits & Leave No Trace:
When planning your Telluride elopement, it’s important to be aware of wedding permits and regulations to ensure a stress-free and seamless experience. The U.S. Forest Service manages many of the beautiful locations in Telluride, and some locations may require a special use permit for wedding ceremonies or professional photography. Some locations may also have a cap on the number of people allowed for ceremonies, and permits may need to be obtained months in advance.
It’s important to do your research and obtain the necessary permits to avoid any unwanted surprises on your special day. I help each of my couples do the research and if required, apply and obtain the necessary permits!
Additionally, as responsible and respectful adventurers, it’s crucial to leave no trace when exploring these beautiful outdoor locations. Be sure to pack out all of your trash, avoid damaging vegetation or disturbing wildlife, and follow all posted rules and regulations.
